Plain terms.
Sift is a one-time purchase you run on your own Mac. These terms cover your license, the trial, and the honest limits of what a file-automation tool can promise. By downloading, installing, or using Sift you agree to them.
The essentials
1. Who these terms are with
Sift ("the App") is made by Kevin Tang ("we," "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us. If you don't agree with them, don't install or use the App.
2. Your license
When you buy Sift you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the App on Macs you own or control. One purchase covers a single person—use it across your own machines. You may not resell, rent, sublicense, redistribute, or share the App or your license key, and you may not reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except where the law says that restriction can't apply.
3. The free trial
Sift is fully functional for 14 days at no cost, so you can evaluate every feature before paying. When the trial ends, buy a license to keep using it. The trial is provided as-is, with no obligation on either side.
4. Purchase and license keys
Purchases are processed by Gumroad, not by us, and are also subject to Gumroad's own terms. Activating your license sends your key and Sift's product identifier to Gumroad to confirm the purchase. Keep your key private—it's for your use only, and we may deactivate keys that are shared or abused.
5. Refunds
Because the 14-day trial lets you try every feature before paying, we ask you to evaluate Sift first. If it still isn't right for you, email martini-doubler7g@icloud.com and we'll work with you on a refund through Gumroad.
6. Your files are your responsibility
Sift creates, converts, renames, moves, compresses, and can delete files on your Mac. It shows the plan before it runs, asks before risky work, and offers Undo where it can—but no automation is perfect. You are responsible for keeping backups of anything important, and for reviewing each plan before you run it. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for files that are lost, overwritten, or corrupted.
7. Local AI and third-party services
Built-in actions run offline. Plain-language requests go only to the OpenAI-compatible AI endpoint you configure—by default a local model such as Ollama on your own Mac. Your use of any third-party model or service is governed by that provider's terms, and you're responsible for the endpoint you point Sift at. Sift also checks kevintang.xyz for signed updates through Sparkle. We aren't responsible for third-party services.
8. Updates and changes to the App
We may release updates, and Sift can check for and install signed releases. We may add, change, or remove features over time, and we're not obligated to provide updates or support indefinitely.
9. No warranty
Sift is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied—including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, files, or profits, arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid for the App.
11. Termination
This license ends automatically if you breach these terms. When it ends, stop using the App and delete it from your Macs.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where we reside, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; material changes are reflected by the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Sift after an update means you accept the revised terms.
