The Finder preview looks stale or blank

FeatherCode's Quick Look extension registers the first time you launch the app — so open FeatherCode once after installing. If a preview still looks wrong, log out and back in, or run qlmanage -r && qlmanage -r cache in Terminal to reset Quick Look.

Vim mode isn't working

Vim mode drives an embedded Neovim, so it needs Neovim installed: brew install neovim. Once it's on your PATH, enable Vim mode in FeatherCode's Settings (⌘,). If FeatherCode can't find it, set the full nvim path in Settings.

A file isn't highlighting, or highlights as the wrong language

FeatherCode picks the language from the file extension (or a shebang for extensionless scripts). If it guesses wrong, choose the language from the status bar. Files with no recognized extension open as plain text.

System requirements

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Universal binary for Apple Silicon and Intel. Vim mode additionally needs Neovim (brew install neovim).
