How to Connect a DualSense Edge to Mac

Pair Sony's premium PS5 controller — back paddles and all — with macOS

The PS5 DualSense Edge pairs with a Mac exactly like a standard DualSense — over Bluetooth or USB-C. macOS recognizes it natively, including the touchpad. Its extra hardware (the two back paddles and the function buttons) is where it gets interesting on the desktop: with the right software you can turn those paddles into keyboard shortcuts.

What You'll Need

🎮

DualSense Edge

The PS5 Edge controller (standard DualSense works too)

💻

Mac Computer

macOS 13 Ventura or later

📶

Bluetooth or USB-C

Built-in Bluetooth, or a USB-C cable

Method 1: Connect via Bluetooth (Wireless)

1

Turn It Off, Then Enter Pairing Mode

If the light bar is on, hold the PS button for ~10 seconds until it turns off — the controller must be off first. Then hold the Create button (small button left of the touchpad) and the PS button together for ~3 seconds, until the light bar flashes blue.

2

Open Bluetooth Settings on Mac

Click the Apple menu () > System Settings > Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is on.

3

Connect

Select "DualSense Edge Wireless Controller" in the list and click Connect.

4

Verify

The light bar stops flashing and turns solid once connected.

Method 2: Connect via USB-C (Wired)

Plug a USB-C cable from the controller into your Mac. It's recognized instantly — no pairing needed, and you get the lowest latency. Great for the carrying-case workflow where the Edge lives at your desk.

About the Back Paddles & Function Buttons

macOS sees the Edge as a standard controller. The back paddles report as additional buttons, so an app like ControllerKeys can map them to keyboard shortcuts, mouse clicks, or macros — turning the Edge into a powerful desktop input device, not just a gamepad.

Troubleshooting

Not Showing in Bluetooth

  1. Make sure the controller was fully off before holding PS + Create
  2. Watch for the light bar flashing blue — that's pairing mode
  3. Toggle Bluetooth off/on on the Mac
  4. If it was paired to a PS5, that console may grab it first — turn the PS5 off or out of range

Reconnecting Each Session

  1. The Edge remembers the last device it connected to — pressing PS reconnects to that one
  2. If you switch between Mac and PS5, you'll re-pair when moving back
  3. A USB-C cable avoids the back-and-forth entirely

Light Bar Too Bright

  1. This is normal on Mac (the OS doesn't dim it like a PS5 does)
  2. It doesn't affect input — purely cosmetic
