The PS5 DualSense Edge pairs with a Mac exactly like a standard DualSense — over Bluetooth or USB-C. macOS recognizes it natively, including the touchpad. Its extra hardware (the two back paddles and the function buttons) is where it gets interesting on the desktop: with the right software you can turn those paddles into keyboard shortcuts.
What You'll Need
DualSense Edge
The PS5 Edge controller (standard DualSense works too)
Mac Computer
macOS 13 Ventura or later
Bluetooth or USB-C
Built-in Bluetooth, or a USB-C cable
Method 1: Connect via Bluetooth (Wireless)
Turn It Off, Then Enter Pairing Mode
If the light bar is on, hold the PS button for ~10 seconds until it turns off — the controller must be off first. Then hold the Create button (small button left of the touchpad) and the PS button together for ~3 seconds, until the light bar flashes blue.
Open Bluetooth Settings on Mac
Click the Apple menu () > System Settings > Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is on.
Connect
Select "DualSense Edge Wireless Controller" in the list and click Connect.
Verify
The light bar stops flashing and turns solid once connected.
Method 2: Connect via USB-C (Wired)
Plug a USB-C cable from the controller into your Mac. It's recognized instantly — no pairing needed, and you get the lowest latency. Great for the carrying-case workflow where the Edge lives at your desk.
About the Back Paddles & Function Buttons
macOS sees the Edge as a standard controller. The back paddles report as additional buttons, so an app like ControllerKeys can map them to keyboard shortcuts, mouse clicks, or macros — turning the Edge into a powerful desktop input device, not just a gamepad.
Troubleshooting
Not Showing in Bluetooth
- Make sure the controller was fully off before holding PS + Create
- Watch for the light bar flashing blue — that's pairing mode
- Toggle Bluetooth off/on on the Mac
- If it was paired to a PS5, that console may grab it first — turn the PS5 off or out of range
Reconnecting Each Session
- The Edge remembers the last device it connected to — pressing PS reconnects to that one
- If you switch between Mac and PS5, you'll re-pair when moving back
- A USB-C cable avoids the back-and-forth entirely
Light Bar Too Bright
- This is normal on Mac (the OS doesn't dim it like a PS5 does)
- It doesn't affect input — purely cosmetic
